you hit another limit: max length of candidates. Try: 

$ ./john --prince=/tmp/prince  --prince-elem-cnt-max=4 --stdout --max-len=24
tanbark
tanbarktanbark
tanbarktanbarktanbark
3p 0:00:00:01 0.00% 2.823p/s tanbarktanbarktanbark
