You can reset the password without logging in as any user.  Search
around for a how-to.  You'll need to either trigger a bootloader prompt
to appear and use e.g. the init=/bin/sh trick there, or you may mount
the filesystem read-write from another system (e.g., from a live CD with
Ubuntu as well) and make changes (set a new root password) from there.
Discussing this in detail is beyond scope of the john-users list, so
you're on your own with this (or you may ask for some hand-holding on it
in a more appropriate forum).

OK.  Since your messages don't have the correct In-Reply-To header, this
suggests that whatever software you're using to send these replies is
broken in that way.

Sure.  It's a problem for subsequent replies anyway, where the Aw/Re
combinations may stack up.  If everyone added their native language to
the mix, it'd get out of control even quicker.
