This is 3% faster (measured in a 30 second -stdout run):
	rand_seed = rand_seed * 1103515245 + 12345;

> 	rand_result <<= 10;
> 	rand_result ^= (rand_seed >> 16) & 1023;

I tried doing something similar with the above but that was slower.
